Pulling a cake from the case…
Just a second.
In her own words

Rebecca Kelley makes the cakes at A Cakery Bakery. She became the full-time pastry chef for The Stockpot restaurants and funneled her cake business there, so she could create them on the clock and save a little sanity. As of June 2024 she had been the pastry chef at The Stockpot for a little over five years. In that time she watched three cake stands and a small cookie tower grow into a whole dessert display, bread for the restaurants, and a custom cake program.
She also does the restaurants' social media, so the rambling continues over there, “just with a more restauranty tone.” This page is the other voice. Come for the cake, stick around for the mostly confusing, occasionally entertaining commentary.
“So this page served its purpose. It got me from part time hobbyist to full blown bakeasaurus.”
She used to be “all fondant, fondant, fondant.” She was a huge Ace of Cakes fan. She prefers her pastry chefs in t-shirts, playing bass in bands on the weekend. Cake Boss was the other side of that early-aughts argument, and for a while buttercream was treated like a throwback.
Most of the buttercream she tasted was overpacked with powdered sugar. She perfected her own recipe — “not to toot my own horn,” she wrote, “the stuff dreams are made of” — and now she wants it on everything. She still uses fondant when the design calls for it. She may go as far as saying she lives, laughs, loves buttercream.
Flowers are a whole other thing. She loves getting them, and she loves them more when they are made of buttercream: no sneezy pollen, and a tasty treat. Some people prefer a bouquet of cupcakes, because some people have allergies. It's her. She's some people.
Her mom is a librarian. A children's librarian, “because we all know children's librarians are national treasures.” Any chance to make a book-inspired cake, she takes. One of those is a pigeon who is not allowed to drive the bus.
A favorite part of decorating is watching kids grow up through the orders. Henry used to want to be a rainbow farmer and later had aspirations of outer space. James, at three, asked for a fish being scared by a brachiosaurus. She also decided the plural of sloth should be sleeth, and then she put one on a cake.
